Crumb-Along Tuesday - Week 5

Only got two blocks made for Crumb-Along today.  I'd like to tell you that I purposefully chose all my ugliest fabric crumbs to make these.... (peeyew!)  but the truth is, that's what I grabbed when I dipped my hand into the crumb bin today.  I'm hoping they kind of get swallowed up in the rest of the crumb blocks I've made so far.  You can see those in this blog post.

And to make those, I cheated on making the half square triangles.  I took them from a box where I keep trimmed bonus HSTs sized 1.5", 1.75", and 2".

I might have made more, but as I was digging in the crumb box for the bigger chunks, I got distracted by thinking about what kind of project could use these skinny little bits....  Now I think I've mentioned before that my crumbs are on the tiny side.  Here's a pic of what I mean.  Not quite an inch wide and two inches long.  Now, why on earth did I keep that?

Thoughts of Tonya's lego blocks (link on the right under tutorials) running through my head, and images of Katell's gorgeous crumb blocks... Have you seen them?  I love the butterflies she posted on her blog and to the Flickr Group Pool?  A link to her blog is here.  Some of the components in her Ohio Stars are cut from stripped fabrics.  That's when I started combining skinny strips to make big enough pieces of fabric from which to cut bigger block components.  And that took up most of the rest of the night.

  3. The crumbs look good to me. You know Bonnie always says if the fabric still looks ugly you just didn't cut it small enough!

  4. I don't think they are ugly...I think they look great!! You are right...blocks that aren't favorites do get lost once they are mixed together.

  5. I think they look fine! I like the shoo fly block especially. I have some in like more than others too and sometimes they grow on me and the rest will either get selectively left out of the final lo or they will find just the right spot that changes their look.

  6. I like all of them. And they'll look even better when they are all put together. I've been taking my really small crumbs and making 3 1/2 inch squares, which I've then been sewing together to make 6 1/2 inch squares to go with the others.
